This week we have been finishing up our first Unit of Inquiry in Performing Arts and beginning our second. Students in most grade levels conducted a singing self-assessment, evaluating their own progress in singing with good posture, annunciation, pitch and music symbol recognition. Grade 2 completed an integrated unit with a focus on types of communication in the arts, including the relationship between the audience and the performer in various settings. All students had a chance to explore drama and dance in addition to music, as part of our new Performing Arts program
In the coming weeks most of the grade levels will be focussing on learning to play an instrument. In K1 and K2 students will focus on handheld percussion instruments. In Grade 3 students are beginning to learn recorder (please see Parent Info page for information on where to purchase a recorder). In Grade 4 the focus is in drumming and in Grade 5, ukulele. Grade 1 is involved in an integrated unit "Sharing The Planet" and Grade 2 has a focus on music from different parts of the world.
